2018 Dodge Journey vs 2017 Dodge Journey

Proudly Serving Golden, CO

The 2018 Dodge Journey picks up where the 2017 Journey leaves off. That's a good thing. It means that this three-row ride is continuing to offer extreme value. The features list keeps growing, and families are sure to feel at home in the Journey's comfy surroundings. Here's what you need to know.

Performance

When the family is on the go, the family driver needs to feel in command. Journeys help out by offering a powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. It generates a healthy 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. If you want more performance, you can choose the front-wheel drive Journey GT or all-wheel drive SE, you can step up to the 3.6-liter V6. It generates 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. In the Dodge tradition of offering lots of choices, the automaker lets you choose the V6 for the SXT with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. This engine allows you to tow up to 2,500 pounds. Trailer Sway Control reduces the risks that come with pulling a load.

Appearance

The biggest change to the Journey is one you won't see from the outside. For the first time, every edition has the coveted third row. This reduces the cost for families who can't afford a higher edition. It certainly takes care of growing kids and busy carpools. Journeys strike an athletic pose but the vehicle actually weighs 1,000 pounds less than its sibling, the Durango. 2017 shoppers won't be familiar with the new Blacktop appearance package. It wears darkened elements that give it a sense of style. Black is added to the grille, front-fascia trim, painted aluminum wheels, roof rails and mirrors.

Features

Trim levels have been streamlined for 2018, cutting back from five to four. The 2017 Crossroad Plus features have been folded into the Crossroad or GT editions. The 2018 Dodge Journey has LATCH attachments like other SUVs, but it offers integrated booster seats, a feature that's hard to find in rivals, especially with the Journey's more affordable pricing scheme. With two built-in carseats, you reduce clutter and provide safety at the same time. Standards include push button start and a 4.3-inch audio display. Dodge offers UConnect, an easy-to-use infotainment system. The top touchscreen measures 8.4 inches. It can pinched and swiped just like your tablet or smartphone. Another favorite on the features list is the three-zone climate system which lets the second row passengers adjust the rear cabin's temperature. If you choose the 2018 Crossroad model, it adds leather upholstery and power chairs. The GT tops the 2018 list with its premium sound system and red-stitched leather seats.
