2018 Ram 1500 vs 2018 Ford F-150

Serving Golden, Denver, and Lakewood, CO

For several decades now, pickup trucks like the Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150 have competed with each other for the affection of customers on a perennial basis. Their immense popularity has mainly been due to their ability to be both reasonably priced and family-friendly while still being formidable off-road vehicles. The 2018 model year is special for the F-150 in particular, since it marks its 70th year of existence. And Ford decided to boost its best-seller with increase towing capacity, new safety features, and enhanced powertrains. However, the Ram 1500 is a better pick due to the following:

Gas Mileage

Although pickup trucks don’t immediately come to mind when mentioning fuel-efficient vehicles, you can still configure either the 2018 Ram 1500 or the 2018 Ford F-150 to get the most mileage out of each gallon of gasoline thanks to a vast array of engine, transmission, and drivetrain choices. On the Ram 1500, you can choose the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. With a front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout—which balances out the weight distribution from front to back—the EcoDiesel V6 can be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission for the Ram truck to yield a peak of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. On the Ford F-150, the least gas-guzzling engine is the 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6. Although it is tinier than its Ram counterpart, it generates a fuel economy of 20/26 mpg, which is one less mpg in the city and 3 less mpg on the highway.

Ride Quality

More so than its Ford counterpart, the 2018 Ram 1500 is praised by automotive writers for its excellent ride quality. Indeed, the Ram truck is arguably the smoothest rider in its segment. Also frequently noted are the precise steering due to the power rack-and-pinion steering system, controlled handling with the upper-and-lower A-arm front suspension and five-link rear suspension, and outstanding stopping ability with the four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.

Cabin Quality

Also listed among the 2018 Ram 1500’s main attributes is the quality of its cabin: a characteristic not usually discussed about pickup trucks. The Ram’s cabin is quiet even on the highway and at high speeds. Coincidentally, automotive writers are not as impressed with the cabin of the 2018 Ford F-150. In fact, they usually note that it is not up to the quality of its main competitors
